Thoughts can be dark. They can cloudy. They are capable of hooking. One of the assumptions that can be seen across all the different types of cultures. Even at the core of most of the empirically supported treatments and psychotherapies. The assumption is that to live a better life or a meaningful life we should get our thoughts in a line. Always think most empirical and pragmatic. Get rid of our Doubts if any. And always be level headed. Most Cognitive-behavioral therapy makes heavy use of cognitive restructuring. The strategies that thought must change. This in turn, will change emotion and that will change the behavior. Even if this has been mentioned explicitly in Cognitive Behavior Therapy. Most other forms of psychotherapy adopt a similar version of it. We spend a tremendous amount of time even in therapy to help clients think differently. Different about themselves. Try to mingle with their worlds. Press to think differently about their problems and the situation in the world. And we as therapists are so certain that just by thinking differently their lives are going to get better.

Cognitive restructuring is what is more generally I think more accurate about the issue. It has been the most counted upon to change human behavior for the better. What we are going to look at now is diffusion. Diffusion in itself does not evaluate the usefulness of logic and rationality. It covers how constructively dealing with problematic thought. Also, emotion can be dealt with a difference.
ACT Earlier knew called it Deliteralization. Gives a quick sense of what cognitive diffusion refers to. We have thoughts particularly engrossing we take them literally. Later changed to cognitive diffusion. As Deliteralization is pretty hard to say. The decision fuse with these thoughts we buy into them, hook them, line them, and sinker. We are so engrossed with them that we don’t even look at them as thoughts. We simply assume that it’s just the way things. We assume that they are real in a fundamental sense and that they describe the situation perfectly. Then they start dictating the behavior and our emotions.
Simply saying words don’t capture reality would not be very helpful. The purpose is not to change the thoughts or restructure them. It is See thoughts as what they are, not as what they say they are. Let us Practically do this exercise and try to defuse the cloud of thoughts. There is also a Hindi version. Remember the purpose is not to change the thoughts but to just know that they are thoughts.
